Containers for warehouse and manufacturing overflow

Distribution centers and plants run out of rack space long before they run out of yard.

Best fit: 40′ High Cube · Cargo Worthy

The industrial parks around Reno and Sparks are full of distribution centers and manufacturers moving fast. Rack space fills up with packaging, slow-moving parts, returns and seasonal inventory, and the next lease is not something you sign lightly.

Containers on the yard give an operation overflow capacity at ground level, outside the building, with no lease and no construction.

Why operations use containers for overflow

Containers turn unused yard into usable, lockable storage. Packaging, dunnage, spare parts, returns and seasonal stock can move out of the building and free rack space for product that turns.

They are also easy to scale. Add boxes when volume climbs, sell or relocate them when it falls, and keep the asset on the books rather than paying rent on space you only need part of the year.

What to look for

Industrial overflow is about volume and access, so check what will slow your crews down.

  • $
Floor condition. It will see pallet jacks and heavy loads.
  • $
Door access. Make sure doors can open fully with room for a pallet jack or forklift to approach.
  • $
Yard layout. Keep truck courts and fire lanes clear.

Which container fits industrial overflow

A 40 ft high cube in cargo worthy condition gives the most cubic space for the money. The steel is sound and dry, and the cosmetic wear it carries from years at sea does not matter in a truck yard.

Choose one trip condition when the box will hold finished goods that must stay spotless, or when it sits in view of customers and visitors.

Containers also work well as dedicated stores for one category of material: one box for packaging, one for maintenance spares, one for returns waiting on processing. That makes them easy to manage and easy to count. Many operations start with one or two and add more as the yard plan settles. Because a container is a standard size, it fits easily into your existing yard layout and can be moved with a tilt bed truck if the site plan changes or a lease ends.

Site prep and delivery in an industrial yard

A 40 ft container comes off a tilt bed truck that needs about 100 feet of straight run in front of the spot, 12 feet of clear width through gates and 14 feet of overhead clearance. Truck yards usually have the room; the planning is around dock traffic and scheduling.

Level asphalt or concrete is an ideal base. Check with your landlord, fire marshal or safety team about placement relative to the building, fire lanes and hydrants.

Mark each spot on the yard before the truck arrives and decide which way the doors should face. Most operations face them toward the building so crews have the shortest trip with a pallet jack, and leave enough room in front for the doors to swing fully open.

Common questions

Can a forklift load a container?

Yes, with care. Many operations use a ramp at the door so a forklift or pallet jack can roll in. Make sure the floor and ramp are rated for the load.

Is cargo worthy good enough for warehouse overflow?

For packaging, parts, returns and most stock, yes. The box is structurally sound and dry. Use one trip if the contents must stay perfectly clean or the box is in public view.

Can you deliver several containers at once?

Yes. Tell us how many you need and we plan the order of placement so the truck can reach each spot.
