Containers for resorts, ski areas and marinas

Mountain and lakeside operations swap a full season of gear twice a year. A container keeps the off-season gear dry and close.

Best fit: 20′ High Cube · Cargo Worthy

Ski areas, lake resorts, marinas and outfitters around Tahoe and the Sierra run two different businesses a year. Rental skis and snow equipment come out in winter; kayaks, paddleboards and patio sets come out in summer. Whatever is not in use needs a dry, secure place nearby.

A container near the rental shop, dock or lift gives that place without adding a building in a setting where building is slow and expensive.

Why seasonal operations use containers

Gear stored off site means a truck run at every changeover. Gear stored outside under tarps means damage and loss. A container sits next to where the gear is used, locks, and keeps out snow, rain and summer sun.

Containers are also easy to place in tight spots and can be relocated if a base area or marina is reconfigured.

What to look for

Mountain and lakeside conditions are hard on storage, so check the seals and plan for moisture.

  • $
Tight gaskets. Snowmelt and lake spray should stay outside.
  • $
Ventilation. Wet gear stored for months needs air movement; a vent helps.
  • $
Shelving and racks. Ski racks and boat racks make a container much more useful.

Which container fits a resort or marina

A 20 ft high cube in cargo worthy condition fits most of these sites. It is compact enough for tight base areas and marina lots, and the extra height helps with racks for skis, paddles and boards. Larger rental fleets may need a 40 ft.

If the container sits in guest view, one trip condition or paint in a color that suits the setting looks better.

Most operations plan their storage around the changeover weekends. Before winter, summer gear is cleaned, dried and racked; before summer, the same happens for skis and snow equipment. A well-organized container turns that changeover from a scramble into a routine. Label racks by size or type so staff can stock and pull rentals quickly, and keep a small workbench near the doors for quick repairs. A second box is often worth it for larger fleets so both seasons have a home.

Site prep and delivery in the mountains

A 20 ft container comes off a tilt bed truck, so the driver needs about 60 feet of straight run in front of the spot, 12 feet of clear width through gates and 14 feet of overhead clearance. In mountain settings, plan around steep grades, tight switchbacks, trees and seasonal road conditions.

Compacted gravel is the most common base. Schedule delivery when roads are clear and the ground is firm, which usually means late spring through fall.

Near a marina, keep the pad well above the high water line and away from the launch ramp traffic. At a ski area, think about where plowed snow will pile up, so the doors are not buried the first time the lot is cleared after a storm.

Common questions

Can you deliver to mountain and lakeside locations?

Usually, if a tilt bed truck can reach the spot. Tight roads, steep grades and seasonal conditions all matter, so we look at the route with you before scheduling.

How do I keep stored gear from getting musty?

Dry gear before storing it, keep the gaskets in good repair and add a vent for air movement. Pallets or racks that keep items off the floor also help.

Can a container be painted to fit the setting?

Ask about color when you request a quote. A container in a color that suits the surroundings blends in much better at a resort or marina.
